Support Sam for the 2025 Hartley Cycle Challenge

Tuesday 18th Nov

Hey, thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the 2025 Hartley Cycle Challenge!

I'm riding with a bunch of mates I've made over the years from the Canberra region. In particular we're riding for my mate Dylan and his family. I met Dylan and his wife Liv, on our Pacific Crest Trail hike, an adventure that took us 5 months and over 4000km of hiking, from Mexico to Canada in 2017. We've been good mates since, even with the Sydney-Canberra distance barrier!

I've ridden in a couple of Hartley Cycle Challenges now, and it's been an honour to help raise awareness for this truly amazing cause. It's also been lot of fun (and some suffering on the bike lol!) riding as a unit of like minded and lovely people - doing it all for Hartley.

In March 2025, Dylan got in touch to tell me about some extremely tough months the family had been through. Liv and Dylan welcomed their second child Miles, into the world on 31st July 2024. A day after Miles was born, Dylan and Miles were flown up to Sydney as there were some concerns about his heart. The paediatric cardiologists in Sydney looked at him and said it’s not too bad but something to keep an eye on, and a couple of the issues could be linked to a genetic condition which they would test him for. The family got the results back after about four weeks and Miles was confirmed to have Williams Syndrome. Unfortunately, about two weeks after that he started to have difficulty breathing at home and despite attempts, the paramedics, and the staff at the hospital he couldn’t be revived.

I was heartbroken to read this, and Dylan was just simply asking if I would ride this year with the same crew - but for Miles this time. Hartley has always been close to my heart since being involved in 2019, but now it's closer than ever to help support Dylan's family. Please support us in 2025 as we ride up 4,639m of hills over 267km in the Snowy Mountains with our "Smile foe Miles" jerseys upon our backs.

Thanks so much for your support.

Cheers,

Sam
